The Southwest Washington Fair - Food

I knew I wouldn't have room for "real" food and dessert so I skipped the "well-balanced" part of a fair food dinner and just went straight for the donut sundae (or as Kathy would say: dog nut sundae).

This is Matt's plate. For those of you who did not hear the sound of him gnawing on bones from two states away, he is no longer a vegetarian. He fell off that wagon hard. Peer pressure. That's what it is. I blame Tom and Kathy and their kitchen and barbecue magic.

No, it was actually the fault of a certain Mr. James Bird. He and his list of what I like to refer to as "food porn". Title such as:
Heat by Bill Buford
Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl
The Man Who Ate Everything by Jeffrey Steingarten
And of course the book that started it all: Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. Actually everything by Bourdain is required reading.
Tom & Kathy didn't start it, they are just enablers.

Michelle, I would sup with you, but order what Matt had. I’m guessing it’s a natural-casing sausage of some sort--too red to be a bratwurst, too short for a kielbasa, knackwurst maybe? A side of coarsely shredded sauerkraut, Cincinnati-style chili perhaps? But what is going on with the onions? Looks delicious.
